Allen Bargen – “Shooting Live Action” Presented by Allen Bargen, Professional Photographer and CAPA member. Allen will describe the techniques he uses to photograph of racing dogs.
Kasandra Sproson – “Formatting Photos For Competitions” Kasandra will walk us through what she does to format photos for contests and evaluation nights.
Jim Hatch – “How to get rid of unwanted backgrounds using quick selections tool” Presented by Jim Hatch, Artist/Photographer/Langley Camera Club Member. Jim will walk us through the workflow to change a background using the newly released Photoshop Selection tool.
Joe Chabot – “What I do to get the most out of Photoshop ” Presented by Joe Chabot, Photographer/Langley Camera Club Member. Joe will be discussing: 1) Walk through work flow/process to enhance images. 2) Demonstrate a few creative ways to ” paint ” on the fly. 3) Share his experience with software that automates a few techniques to help improve images.
Wed., Feb 28 – Program Night: Photojournalist Ben Nelms
Ben’s presentation will touch on a variety of subjects related to working as a full-time photojournalist. This will include ethics, working on long term photo essays and the logistics behind shooting news on a daily basis. Ben will also speak about covering the Royal Tour for 9 days.
“Ben Nelms is an award-winning photojournalist based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Ben works for such clients as Reuters, The Canadian Press, National Post, The Globe and Mail, The Washington Post, Macleans, Sports Illustrated and Canadian Geographic. In late 2010, Ben moved to Vancouver to work as a stringer for Reuters News Agency. He also continues to freelance for other clients. Ben served as the News Photographers Association of Canada’s Vice-President for 4 years up until 2017.
In 2016, Ben was honoured to receive the title of Official Royal Photographer to The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate, for their 9 day Royal Tour of B.C. and the Yukon. Ben is deeply passionate about the power of visual storytelling through photographs. When not photographing daily editorial assignments, Ben’s intense curiosity leads him to continually seek out and photograph new personal stories.”

Wed, Mar 14 – Evaluation Night – Theme “Connections”
Wed, Mar 21 – Development Night – Photographer Rick Hulbert. Presentation “Shooting On The Street”
Rick Hulbert will be with us for the full evening! He will share with us how he approaches “street photography” including technical aspects : equipment, settings, composition, exposure, light and focus. Photographing the street can include people, buildings, graffiti and anything that you see in an urban environment.Rick is a member of the Langley Camera Club and considers LCC his “home club” He has been a frequent lecturer, teacher, and seminar panel participant on four continents. He has been named a Fellow in the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, which is among the highest honours that can be bestowed upon a member. He is a former President of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia. Notably, Rick is also an Academician in the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts, one of the youngest members ever to be elected to that august body. As an architect, Richard has won design awards or has had his works published each and every year for the past 35 years.
Wed., Mar 28 – Program Night – Photographer Marion McCristall
Marion McCristall will speak about Travel Photography with Heart. She is an award-winning photographer who has recently spent three years living in Europe and now divides her time between Canada and Portugal. She has travelled to 37 countries with her camera in hand and will offer tips on how to take your travel photography to the next level. Marion and her colleague, Fernando Picarra, offer photography tours and workshops in Portugal. https://www.pictoursportugal.com
