Langley Camera Club Awards effective September 2016
1. Evaluation Night: Projected Award
This award acknowledges proficiency in Projected images. Members enter projected images (digital or slide) to the monthly Evaluation Night. Only their highest projected score for each month is counted towards this award.
Each member’s highest projected scores from the monthly Evaluation Night will be added together at the end of June.
The member with the top score will be awarded the LCC Projected trophy and will receive a certificate; second, thru tenth place will receive a certificate.
2. Evaluation Night: Print Award
This award acknowledges proficiency in Print images. Members enter prints to the monthly Evaluation Night. Only their highest print score for each month is counted towards this award.
Each member’s highest print scores from the monthly Evaluation Night will be added together at the end of June.
The member with the top score will be awarded the Max Jamison Print trophy and will receive a certificate; second and third place will receive a certificate.
3. Evaluation Night: Print & Projected Aggregate Award
This award acknowledges proficiency in both Print & Projected images. Members enter print, slide or projected images to the monthly Evaluation Night. Only their highest score for each month is counted towards the Aggregate award.
Each member’s highest scores from the monthly Evaluation Night will be added together at the end of June to create their Aggregate Score.
The member with the top score will be awarded the LCC Print & Projected Aggregate trophy and will receive a certificate; second through tenth will receive a certificate.
4. Judy Daniels’ Award of Excellence
Judy Daniels was a vibrant member of the Langley Camera Club for ten years. In addition to being an active member of the Langley Camera Club, she also was a member of the Lions Gate Camera Club and Canadian Association for Photographic Art. Judy was recognized for her photographic excellence with countless awards and had her work published in magazines such as Canadian Camera Magazine, Langley Visitor’s Guide, Visitors’ Choice Magazine, Photographer’s Forum Magazine and “Best of Photography. Judy exhibited in juried exhibitions and received awards for her work and she also sold her pictures to collectors.
Judy gave back to our community as much as she received. As well as volunteering for many positions within her clubs, she also served as a certified judge. Her comments were knowledgeable, encouraging and instructional. Judy also mentored other photographers in the art of judging.
Judy’s is remembered for her wit and sense of humour; It is her legacy of high calibre photography and competitive spirit that the LCC recognizes and honours the recipient of the Judy Daniels Award; it is a points earned award based on LCC members aggregate scores for combined outside competitions and from the clubs Evaluation night.
Each member’s Aggregate scores for Evaluation Night and Outside Competitions will be added together at the end of June.
The member with the top combined score will be awarded the Judy Daniels’ Award of Excellence trophy and will receive a certificate; second through tenth place will receive a certificate.
4A. Judy Daniels’ Ribbon of Excellence – Monthly Evaluation Night Award
As a tribute to her years as a contributor to the club and to recognize her incredible photographic talent, the executive decided to implement and with her permission, a Judy Daniels Ribbon of Excellence. This means that on each month we have Evaluation Night, should an image score 27.5 or greater the maker will receive a Judy Daniels Ribbon of Excellence ribbon. This ribbon is a very high honour and reflects the amazing photography of our member and friend.
5. Outside Competitions Award
Langley Camera Club participates in Outside Competitions several times a per season.
All members are encouraged to participate and submit images for the selection process.
The members that have their image selected as part of the club submission will receive the score awarded to them from that competition. Members that submitted images for consideration but were not selected will receive 10 points to acknowledge their participation in the competition.
The member whose Outside Competitions Aggregate Scores is the highest will be awarded the LCC Outside Competition trophy and will receive a certificate; second and third place will receive a certificate.
This aggregate score will be part of the Judy Daniels Award of excellence.
(Images that have been submitted to Inside Competitions maybe also be submitted for club entries for Outside Competitions.)
Deadlines are announced by email, on the website, and/or in the newsletter.
Projected images are sent to LCC Competitions (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Prints are brought to club meetings and given to Joy Gerow.
A selection committee judges the images to determine the club’s entry.
Makers’ names are anonymous during the judging process.
Only one image per club member may be submitted to a specific club outside competition.
The club’s entry is sent to the competition host club.
Each MAKER whose images are considered for a specific competition will receive either
• 10 points for submitting and being short-listed
• if chosen to be part of the club’s entry, the official score the image receives in the competition, (rather than the 10 points,) will be allocated.
A record is kept of submissions and club entries. When the scores come in from an outside competition, they will be entered into the records. For each maker, scores will be calculated to include 10 points, or the Official Competition Score.
6. Most Improved Member Award
This award is available to all members (excluding first year members) who submit images a minimum of 7 Evaluation Nights in each of the previous and current seasons.
Each member’s average score is calculated by dividing their aggregate score by the number of months in which images were submitted (minimum 7). The award will go to the person with the largest percent increase between their highest average score last season and their highest average score this season.
The member with the most improvement will be awarded the Most Improved Member trophy and will receive a certificate; second & third place will receive a certificate.
7. New member Award
To be considered for this award, new members must have submitted images in at least six Evaluation Nights in their first season of membership. Only the highest scoring image in each Evaluation is tallied.
The average score is calculated by dividing their Aggregate Score by the number of months in which images were submitted (minimum six). The award goes to the new member with the highest average score.
The new member with the highest average score will be awarded the New Member Trophy and will receive a certificate; second and third place will receive a certificate.
8. Chris Sheffield Service Award
The Chris Sheffield Service Award is presented to a member on the executive who embodies the spirit of the LCC Objective.
“The Langley Camera Club (LCC) objective is to promote and advance photography as an art form, to relax and enjoy photography with friendly associates, to be active in our hobby and promote friendly competition, to provide instruction and helpful advice, to encourage members to stay active, produce new work, to improve on existing and ever changing new techniques and to exhibit photographic work of club members – both in club and outside the club.” (LCC Handbook)
In June, each member of the executive will receive a ballot to vote for their 1st and 2nd choice.
The following criteria should be considered for the nominations:
- Is the candidate a great role model as a member and/or as a photographer?
- Has the candidate shown superior leadership qualities by inspiring others?
- Participation for the club behind the scenes
- Participation at the club.
The ballots are to be tabulated by the Awards Committee and the winner will be awarded the Chris Sheffield Service Award trophy and will receive a certificate.
Season End Acknowledgements
All members with images scoring 26 or better will be acknowledged in a slide show.
All members submitting an image every month will be acknowledged.
All members achieving a Judy Daniels Ribbon will be acknowledged.
