LCC This Month
(also available as a PDF after this link)

Hello Club,

As March gets underway, I’m still basking in the afterglow from one of the most amazing experience in my history as a Canadian: The 2010 Winter Olympics. Before they began, I hoped for two simple things: that we would show the world we could organize and run the games smoothly and that our athletes would make us proud. My two wishes were overwhelmingly exceeded. VANOC did a superb job of an incredibly complex task, making us all proud. Our athletes did even more and also gave us many stories of inspiration that touched our hearts. But the unpredicted wave of Canada Celebration did more for my patriotic heart than anything I could ever imagine. Go Canada Go!

And the Olympic photo ops were everywhere. I hope you were able to get in on the action and enjoy the buzz.

Gateway of Hope Project

Our club has committed to providing some photography for the Gateway of Hope, the new homeless shelter in Langley.  It is our intent to provide “some colour” for the walls in two areas:

  • common area used by the short term residents
  • one of the “pods” that will be home for 4-5 long term residents

Please consider submitting an image for possible selection for this project.

What types of photographs are we looking for?

  • Photographs that inspire
  • Photographs that show beauty
  • Photographs that suggest hope
  • Photographs that brighten a day (colour, mood, etc)
  • Photographs could be still life, nature, landscape, architecture, etc.  Be creative.

How to submit images

  • Please forward your images to  comps@langleycameraclub.com by the end of March.
  • Submit images following the same guidelines as for evaluation night
  • Please put Gateway of Hope in the subject line.

It is our intent to make a final selection of images at the end of March.

Thanks for your assistance.

If you have questions, please contact the people involved in this project.

Freeman Patterson is Coming to Langley!

We are very excited to tell you that Freeman has been confirmed as a special presenter in Langley, as a special guest of our camera club, in January 2011. Freeman will provide a full day session on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Chief Sepass Theatre.

Mark you calendars, tell your friends, this is confirmed. Details of the day will be announced later. Tickets will be made available to LCC members as well as interested people outside of the club.

Special thanks to Paul Baker for making contact with Freeman and coordinating this.

Langley Events Centre Needs Us

Another new building needs our artistry to decorate their walls. Tourism Langley occupies some space in the new Langley Events Centre on 200th Street and would like to have photographs of the Langley area to exhibit. They would look after printing (about 12 x 18”) and framing. The Club would be recognized for their contribution.

If you would like to see your photo(s) of Langley displayed there, please forward a jpg (same size as evaluation night entries) to Glen Mackenzie at glen@jdgconstruction.ca as soon as possible.

March has Five Wednesdays

We have a special evening for you on the fifth Wednesday of the month (March 31). Dewitt Jones worked as a National Geographic photographer for 20 years and learned much about the world from his travels. He also learned a lot about life. We will look at two movies he has created. Celebrate What’s Right with the World and Everyday Creativity offer a combination of inspirational message and photography. Not to be missed!

Summer Camping is Back!

Thanks to Paul and Kathy who have taken on the organization of a summer camping trip for the club. The plan is to go to Conkle Lake Provincial Park, a beautiful rustic spot about 70 km outside of Osoyoos.  This would take place on the Canada Day weekend, Friday July 2 through Sunday July 4, 2010.

Paul and Kathy have reserved a group campsite already. Please contact them asap neudorfshots@yahoo.ca to reserve a spot for you and your family.

Fraser Valley Invitational

The FVI is just two months away. The Committee is hard at work putting all the pieces together and progress is going well. We need your help in two ways:

  • If you have a suggestion for music that could be used with a slide show on the theme of water, please contact Detlef at paintwithlight1@hotmail.com .
  • If you have suggestions for the theme of the 2011 FVI, please send your ideas to Suzan Guest at sguest@shaw.ca .
  • And of course, create your winning images of Water: In Any Form.

Club Calendar on the Website

We now have a monthly calendar on the club website at www.langleycameraclub.com . Just go to our home page at any time to see what is happening. Thanks, Jim!
