June 2009 Update
The year 2008-2009 for the camera club is coming to a close this month. But there are lots of photo ops ahead so please read on and plan to be there.
1. Calendar (all meetings at 7:30 pm)
Wednesday, June 10 – Evaluation Night
Our theme this month is Bridges. You have until Monday night, June 8, to submit your images. Please remember to indicate if you are level 1 or 2. Also, please let us know if you do not want or need the judges to comment. You do this as follows:
To indicate your experience with photography:
$theme$My Dog$Jane Doe$1$ Add a 1 or 2 at the end, followed by a $.
To indicate if you don’t want the judge’s comment:
$Theme$My Dog$ Jane Doe$N$ Simply add N at the end, followed by a $.
Special Note for Print & Slide Makers:
You must send an email to eval@langleycameraclub.com and follow the above format if you are submitting prints or slides. We have had a lot of prints/slides submitted without the proper notation and this requires a great deal of time for our tech team to correct. Complete instructions are here: http://www.langleycameraclub.com/submissionInstructions.html
Remember, prints & slides must arrive by 7:15 pm on Wednesday night to be accepted.
Thanks for your cooperation.
Saturday, June 13 - Photo Hunt & BBQ
Be sure to join us on Saturday, June 13. Meet at the Langley Army & Navy parking lot at 9:00 AM. For complete information on the photo hunt, please see Bill Kellett’s email, dated June 4.
After the Photo Hunt, all are welcome to the BBQ (even if you didn’t get to the photo hunt) at Joy and Ralph Gerow’s place. Bring your own BBQ item and a side dish or dessert to share. Disposable plates and utensils will be supplied. Bring a chair, bring your own beverage(s). Joy and Ralph live at 4962-236th St, Langley. Phone 604.533.5013.
Wednesday, June 17 – Members’ Showcase
This will be our last official club meeting of the year. And there’s lots to do.
First on tap, will be our Annual General Meeting. As described in my email of June 4, a membership fee increase of $10.00 per year will be proposed. We also need to finalize our slate of executive members for the coming year.
Second, this is the night for Show and Learn, and is your chance for extended conversations about any image. If you wonder about one of your pictures, or someone else’s, send them to plengyell@yahoo.ca by June 15. We need you to take advantage of this opportunity – send your images to Paul! For complete information about this, please see Brian Martin’s email sent on June 7.
Thirdly, if you have a slide show, Whatsit, or something else to share with the club, please let Paul know as soon as possible.

2. Club Info
Want to be an Executive Member?
The executive of the Langley Camera Club is re-elected (well, really, the word is acclaimed) every year in June. We strive to be an open club where everyone can be involved as much as you wish. We are always pleased to welcome newer members to join the leadership. If you are interested in a position on the executive for next year, please speak to Dennis or any of the executive members (http://www.langleycameraclub.com/executive.html) for more information. Get more involved in your club! It’s the best way to get to know people.
We have openings right now for:
- Refreshments coordinator – we have ideas to make this task more manageable and enjoyable. Please contact Tena Anderson or Dennis for more info.
- Promotions
- FVI coordinator
- Langley Arts Council representative
Camping Trips?
The club has a great history of winter and summer camping trips from the past several years. These are a great time to get to know each other, learn from each other and to visit new places. Anyone interested in organizing future trips? Please let Dennis know.
Themes for 2009-2010
Our list of themes for evaluation nights for the next year are finalized and will be announced this week, June 10. You can check at the club website after that to get the list and start shooting for next year.

4. Inspiration Patrick DiFuscia is a young landscape photographer from Quebec who has an amazing portfolio. He is also a member of TimeCatchers, a consortium of photographers who have a very high standard. Check him out at www.difrusciaphotography.com/ and follow the link to TimeCatchers. If you go to his blog, you will see that he is currently traveling through BC and is very impressed. |
| Congratulations to our own Ingrid Bird who had two photos published in this weekend’s edition of the Langley Advance. With the heat wave in full progress, she pulled out the camera and caught her son and friend creatively cooling off. Way to go, Ingrid! | ![]() |
Read a book from our club library this summer!
